travelogue V - Thursday 10.12. until Saturday, 12.12.2009

A further detailed report by Jan Dehn RT 121 Husum for the blog:

Thursday 10 December 2009

We go to some schools and orphanages. With Caritas, we sit down together to discuss the distribution site and look for improvements.

goodbye lunch we warmly by our hosts and helpers in Alba Iulia. Tim is driving the truck safely to Timisoara. 5 hours of highway. Huge truck traffic. My question "where are all the trucks" has answered me no.

All the other trucks roll tours at the orphanage on - all are healthy again! In Timisoara, we get with just the end of the Christmas party in Rudolf-Walther-children's home. Lively atmosphere with many happy children.

All tell of the experiences on the individual tours, a lively exchange of images and impressions.

Friday 11 December 2009
breakfasts and make clear to the shutdown. At 11:00 clock rolls back the entire convoy. We are advancing well and quickly reach the motorway in Hungary. Then an accident - a truck (not ours) caught through no fault of one car. Fortunately, all of which are uninjured. We have to wait. With horror and body damage, we can proceed.

We roll through the night. Budapest, Vienna, Passau .... Before us 10 trucks that were a week ago loaded with 45,000 Christmas parcels. We have made many children in Romania were very happy. The emergency relief can not safely with a package, but just a bit of joy and connectedness to bring. It develops Much in Romania: infrastructure is built, schools and renovated buildings, companies settle here. To the prosperity of which depends, we have a gift, will take a long time. We

little tired but happy to have a lot of moves are. Communion with the Table members, particularly in our force to Alba Iulia was great.

impressed with the professionalism of the convoy rolled out - a big thank you to the drivers and the convoy line with Berit, Torben and Marco.

With lots of pictures and images of the convoy is tomorrow in Hanau. I miss my family and I look forward to Christmas. A Christmas in a different light!

Saturday 12 December 2009
slept well again between sitting on the bus. Christian and Tim say goodbye in Regensburg and go north. The convoy slowly dissolves. I ride the bus to Hanau, then it goes in the car in Husum. North Friesland we come! Thanks to all the packet packer and helper! Romania was a great experience and joy! I wish you a Merry Christmas!

How To Set Up A Brownie Vest

SMS: Conclusion of Brasov tour

from Brasov by Marco M:
We are on the way back to Timisoara. On the basis of many discussions in our group is clear that there will be some time before we will have processed all the impressions of the last days.
The Romanians want to join Europe and put to it even to the wheel. The infrastructure of the EU measures were positive and visible everywhere, including in the social sector. It's nice to see how many different private engagement of people from Western Europe and particularly from Germany, there are. The level of training and commitment of the staff of the Romanian institutions we visited seemed very high. And yet, those who will probably be the last to enter the beneficiary of holding wealth, as always, the margins of society: the elderly, sick, children and ethnic minorities, primarily the Roma.
The message in all these children but also all the staff and parents had arrived on site in my opinion as clearly as it is simple: You can do it and you will, but under no circumstances are you here alone! I am happy and grateful for a small cog in this huge relief effort was to be and I can only advise everyone to be there next time, because: The what have you done this week at home in your job, will you at least remember at Christmas have promised a week of round-table on the other hand NEVER convoy.
really looking forward to after all the impressions of all the others in Timisoara, my contributions to the convoy stop there, you all a Merry Christmas!
Yit

Travelogue IV - Wednesday, 12/09/2009

A further detailed report by Jan Dehn RT 121 Husum for the blog:

We start with 650 parcels in the mountains. It's rainy. We go to several schools where we distribute the packets directly in the classroom. We are now well established and sorting the packages in age and sex works very well. We collect as from day to day experience of what we can do better. The landscape resembles the Alps: Brooks (full of garbage), cliffs, forests. It is mainly practiced by the forest industry. Here and there sawmills for timber. I try in vain to inspire Christian return freight. Today we are saved only on paved roads, gravel roads remain to us. Nevertheless, the ride is a little odd.
noon, we hit a place, where currently a ski lift will be built. The used snow cat will be waiting. The concrete for the lifts but driving a horse and carriage - Opposites everywhere.
evening we arrive healthy and safe Alba Iulia. We invite students of theology with the help of 20 all the remaining parcels in the garage of the charity. Many hands make quick end. The trailer is empty!
Caritas takes over the distribution of the packs on the ground in the next two weeks. From the idea that we can make it alone in three days, we had to leave quickly.
At dinner we are discussing some heatedly about improvement in the organization and logistics. In the end we decide to maintain our points in writing and to discuss with the convoy line. We agree that the convoy is right and important, and that the collection and transportation worked well to Romania. Here in Romania still needs some are being addressed. This is however not without personal commitment - that's clear!
morning it's back to Timisoara.

SMS: Romanian Hospitality

from Brasov by Marco M:
Our last stop is 137 years old orphanage home for severely disabled children. The house seems to be out excellent. The center's director, EU funding and donations has raised to perform to the best treatment standards for over 200 children. Even a women's shelter she was able to open five years ago on the site. The gifts are a perfect complement for all these children who are almost without exception, orphans.
A résumé of the two days of excitement takes place tomorrow, because the Romanian hospitality here has now broken through in full. In short, I am angeschickert powerful plum brandy mulled wine and white. Good night, Germany! ;-)

we can all truly be proud of yourselves! Most of all I would have gone up last Saturday with easy. It was great again, took a ride as two years ago from my own, to feel the spirit and zest for action. Strained faces in new riders and anticipation to do good again with the "old hands". You experience service as close as possible! That's what makes Round Table!

gifts for children in the surrounding

from Petrosani and surrounding areas of Sabrina
We are deeply moved this morning in the valley adjacent to Petrosani. Here, unemployment at almost 70%. Earlier by the coal mining still quite wealthy, this area after the closure of nearly all the mines is now destitute. The living conditions of people are hard to imagine. We were allowed two Kindergartens visit and see how much is trying to give children a better future. This afternoon is a tour in the worst quarter of the city - we go to Rome, where they distribute packets.

SMS: On the border

from Brasov by Marco M:
I feel sick. Why do people on something like this? No windows, no doors, no heating. Both in the social housing, and here it was only Roma. According to the Caritas staff member all efforts, the standards in the past, increase to no avail. New installed heating systems were inoperable after a few days because they abused the lines as a great hot water supplier for hot drinks had. The only way to change the states can be only education and that the children were strong forces in the schools. Most use Thank goodness the day-care centers and schools, as is the way to here all good, still long, I fear.
